Watching some truly Historic Rotary Mazdas at the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Classic 24 in Daytona is going to be epic. But don’t watch from the bleachers. Join us in the infield at the Classic Mazda Car Corral with our friends from Orlando Cars & Coffee.

Historic Mazda Rotaries @ HSR Classic 24

Mazda Motorsports recently revealed the Mazda Heritage Collection in partnership with our friends at Flis Performance in Daytona. As the official manufacturer of every MX-5 Cup Car (supplied by yours truly), Flis Performace was the perfect partner to restore these iconic rotaries.

The 767 & 767B were prototype cars built by Mazdaspeed (#NeverForget 😢 ) specifically for the 24 Hours of LeMans in the IMSA GTP class and featuring a custom 4-rotor engine producing almost 600hp with a distinctly loud and high-pitched rotary sound that made it a fan favorite.

This particular car won the 1989 24 Hours of LeMans in the GT Prototype Class and 7th overall. While it did not take home an overall victory, it was an important step in Mazda’s journey to the 1991 LeMans championship with the 787B, making it the only rotary to accomplish that feat.

Where my RX-7 owners/stans at?

The RX-7 has won more IMSA races than any other car model including 7 IMSA GTU wins in a row and 10 IMSA GTO championships in a row. This RX-7 GTO competed in the 1994 24 Hours of LeMans and finished in 2nd place in the IMSA GTS Class and 15th overall.

MX-5 Cup Finale @ Petit LeMans

The MX-5 Cup Finale @ Road Atlanta is Oct. 11-13. And our favorite MX-5 Cup race car driver, Selin Rollan, is sitting within striking distance of the championship for @HixonMotorsports / @BSI_Racing Team for his final full season of MX-5 Cup racing.

Selin is a former Classic Mazda Sales member and recently purchased a special order 2024 Mazda CX-50 in Ingot Blue Metallic for his fiancé, Erin, from his former alma mater.

While he plans to race a partial season next year, we told Selin that it makes for a better headline if we say this is the last race of his last season. But for accuracy’s sake, we pestered asked Selin for a quote before the final race of his last “full” season:

We wish Selin the best of luck in the finale and even more luck trying to find time to race next season!

MX-5 Cup & Spec MX-5 Shootout Nominees Announced

Mazda Motorsports has announced 2023 MX-5 Cup Shootout Nominees and 2023 Spec MX-5 Shootout Nominees, including our friend Mia LeRoux.

Nominees have to submit a video application pitching why they should be selected as a finalist to complete in their respective shootout.

MX-5 Cup Shootout prizes:

• 1st Place - $100K 2024 MX-5 Cup Scholarship

• 2nd Place - $75K Scholarship

• Top Finishing Female - $75K Scholarship

Spec MX-5 Shootout:

• 2 Winners Become Mazda Factory Drivers

• Full Scholarship for National SCCA Spec MX-5

The Spec MX-5 Shootout was created to give racers a path to a professional career as traveling to races, entry fees, car damage and other costs of racing are not cheap. And, many winners of the Spec MX-5 Shootout have gone on to win the MX-5 Cup Shootout.

Congrats on being nominated and good luck to Mia as she continues to pursue her dream.
